Subject of the Study

A compact process line was developed for a food producer operating in West Africa, which converts raw salt into **food-grade iodized table salt**. The line consists of three stages: drying, grinding, and iodizing.

Why these three stages

In the region, salt is mostly supplied with high humidity. Moisture disrupts both grinding and packaging; it also prevents the homogeneous distribution of the iodine additive. Therefore, the sequence was established as **first drying, then grinding, and finally iodizing**.

Equipment Approach

The dryer is of the rotary type with a 4-meter body and a 7-degree incline; the material and hot air enter from the high side, and the product moves forward by its own weight. The body is made of 2 mm AISI 304 stainless steel, and the outer surface is insulated with 50 mm glass wool — this detail reduces energy consumption and keeps the outer surface temperature safe.

A vertical stone mill has been preferred in the grinding stage; since the same machine can also be used for grain and bulgur crushing, the possibility of expanding the product range of the facility remains open in the future.
